Mrs. Mary Etter Umphries, of 802 Robinson Street, Elizabeth City, NC, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at her residence. Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at New Sawyers Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Camden, NC. A viewing will take place at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home of the deceased. Mrs. Umphries leaves to cherish her loving memories; one daughter, Shirley Hughes of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, Bradford Mercer, Sr., of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Adline Thompson of Bridgeville, Md and Dorothy Dozier of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Marvin Mercer of Elizabeth City, NC; one sister-in-law, Willa F. Mercer of Elizabeth City, NC; eleven grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; thirty-seven great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
