Dr. Benita Hermione Powell entered eternal rest on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Herman Leon Powell, I and the late Ardella Evelyn Jarvis Powell. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her son, "baby" Christopher Callie and one sister, Everly Powell.
Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Grace and Truth Community Church in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. A private Interment will be Monday, March 23, 2026, at Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery, Moyock, North Carolina. A viewing/visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2026, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Grace and Truth Community Church in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
“Nita” leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Kristie Powell and one brother Herman “HL” L. Powell, II both of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; three nieces, Brittani, Brianca (Achu Dara), and Shelea and one nephew, Desmond; one god-son, George L. Powell, II; one god-daughter, Tinika Bloodworth; six god-brothers, Johnny Jr., (Lauretta), Vernon (Precillia), George Linwood (Martha), Weldon (Nina), Carlton (Jazennie-deceased ) and Darryl Gregory (Geri); one god-sister, Deborah Ferebee (Andrew); great nieces and nephews, Taylor, Jace, Kayden, Charlotte, King and Dream Ardella; aunts and uncles, Patricia White (Clinton-deceased), Dr. Lenora Jarvis-Mackey (Dr. Claude), SMSgt William Jarvis (Constance) and Rev. Dr. Leonard Jarvis (Gloria); best friend, Elnora Jett, Woodbridge, Virginia and a host of cousins and friends.
